Official Bugle of East Coast Bays Bridge Club Issue No. 53 July 2020

Our club’s mission is ‘To provide enjoyable, competitive bridge

at all levels within a friendly, social environment.

Post Covid-19

It is great to see a large number of members returning after this lockdown, considering the uncertainity caused by this terrible virus.

Attendance has been surprisingly good. The first week we were down by 15 tables over the whole week compared with the same period last year. Move forward the next three weeks and we were only down a total of 4 tables over the three weeks compared to last year. We are back in force and enjoying it.

Friday 10th July had 21 tables, which is the second highest number at this session.

As you are aware we have introduced the cashless table money system. There are a number of clubs that have introduced this, and another third party system. This reduces the amount of cash handled by the club (lets face it cash is known to carry germs and bacteria) On top of this there is a very good electronic audit trail when it is paid by internet banking.

It takes as much time to process a $50 transaction as it does a $5, we ask members if they could make $20 the minimum amount for top up.

As a reminder here is part of Alec’s original procedure.

How do I top up my account?

Use internet banking to make a payment to the club. The suggested top up amount is $50 but it can be any amount appropriate to how often you play bridge.

What should I do if I cannot use internet banking?

Option 1 Pay cash by placing your money in an envelope with your Name, Bridge Number and Amount written on the outside and place in the box at the entrance to the club. No coins please.

As one of the major objectives of this plan is to reduce cash handling, cash is the least desirable option from the club’s point of view. Coins will no longer be acceptable due to banking issues.

We expect that initially there may be more cash transactions as members learn to use the banking system. The club wants to make life easy for everyone.

Please try to make CASH payments of at least $20 if you can, to avoid unnecessary transaction processing.

Option 2 Ask a friend to make the payment on your behalf and you pay them the cash. Make sure they know your bridge number and put in the reference.

Account Reports

The first of the account statements have been sent out. A few members report that they have not received them. Please check your Spam, or junk email folders as they are most likely in there.

It is important to make sure that the club has the right email address for you as this is the prime method of communication.
